A one week Design Challenge at the Saving Grace Shelter is complete! Everything was done in just a week, relying solely on donations.

Before and after pictures show the transformation by the High Desert Design Council, community members lending their time and talent to turn the space into a relaxing and modern living room and kitchen for the woman and children that live at the shelter. The non profit aims to help victims of violence in Central Oregon.

"For people whose life is in crisis and trauma, I hope this will be a really nice place for them. Yeah know, the blood and sweat, that people put into this and the donations we got from local businesses, yeah know that's what made it happen," says Martha Murray, High Desert Design Council.

With their first community project complete the High Desert Design Council hopes to get involved with more community outreach projects in the future.

Coming together with paint brushes, paint, and donated furniture, High Desert Design Council takes on a design challenge at the Saving Grace Shelter, in the kitchen and great room.

The Council volunteered to do the project for the shelter. The goal is to create a happy and relaxing environment for women and children who stay there.

The challenge; zero budget and a one week time frame.
Friday crews got to work, thanks to donations from the community.

"It's really important for our clients to have a really pretty, pleasant place to live as they are transitioning from the lives that they had, into the lives that they are going to be creating. So for us to be able to provide a beautiful space for them is really nice. It's an important part of their healing process, and their transitional process. So the fact that all these people are supporting us is really fantastic," says Martha Murray, High Desert Design Council.

Everything from paint, furniture and labor was donated as the group works hard to spruce up the shelter's space.

Yolo Colorhouse Paint, Brilliant Enviromental Building Products, Benjamin Moore Paint, Globe Lighting, Area Rug Connection and Haven Home Style were some of the local contributors.
